Ranking among the largest art museums in the U.S., the Edward Larrabee Barnes–designed DMA will be redesigned and expanded with a focus on accessibility and transparency. 

The ever-evolving Srihatta will open next year with additional contributions from a range of international artists and architects to come.

Triumphing over shortlisted proposals from firms including SANAA, Herzog & de Meuron, and Adjaye Associates, the Chipperfield revamp extends the existing museum to the street and incorporates a rooftop park. 

The revitalization of its exhibition and public spaces is the first major interior overhaul at the Washington, D.C., museum since 2006.  

The Toronto firm’s sweeping pavilion marks the latest addition to the province's largest art museum.
