Here Are the 2022 Good Food Award Winners for Coffee

Fifteen specialty coffee companies from throughout the United States have won 2022 Good Food Awards, a program now in its 12th year of celebrating specialty food producers and products for both quality and sustainability.

Coming from a roster of 23 finalists announced last fall, the list of 2022 winners includes representation from roasting companies throughout the United States, plus a relatively diverse mix of coffee origin countries, processing styles and plant varieties.

Good Food Awards Coffee Committee Co-Chair of Royal Coffee’s The Crown Sandra Elisa Loofbourow told DCN that after a concerted effort over the past five years to broaden the diversity of coffee origins represented in the awards program, 2022 felt like a breakthrough year.

“There have been changes to the rules for the past three or four years,” said Loofbourow, noting the prominence of Ethiopian coffees throughout the competition’s history. “This is really the first year that we saw a significant increase in different origins.”

Loofbourow also said this year saw nearly even representation of roasting companies in terms of geographic region within the United States, with excellent offerings pouring in from all over the country.

Said Loofbourow, “That’s one of the things that’s improved pretty steadily over the last few years.”

All 15 of the winners in the coffee category, in which more than 2,000 entries were submitted, will be honored at a ceremony featuring renowned chef Alice Waters that has been rescheduled to March 4 at the Palace of Fine Arts in San Francisco.

In the meantime, a popup shop inside San Francisco’s Ferry building that features more than 100 of this year’s 244 winners in all food categories is running from Jan. 15-31.
