Fire Destroys the Boyer’s Coffee and Luna Gourmet Roastery in Denver

Fire crews have spent the past 24 hours responding to a devastating fire at the Boyer’s Coffee cafe and roastery in Denver, Colorado.

The Adams County Fire Protection District described the historic schoolhouse structure that serves as Boyer’s home as “a total loss” following a blaze that started yesterday afternoon.

As of this writing, Adams County firefighters were still putting out hot spots as a crew was investigating the possible cause of the fire, which has not yet been determined. According to county officials, no one was inside the building during the fire and one person in a business next door was treated for smoke inhalation.

In a statement provided to Daily Coffee News, a company spokesperson wrote, “We’re still assessing the damages, but are happy to report that no employees were injured in the fire. As a local, family-owned roaster, that’s our number one priority at this moment. We’ll share more as additional information becomes available.”

Update: Following is an updated statement from the owners of Boyer’s Coffee and Luna Gourmet and its family of brands, Douglass and Jason Barrow:

“We’re grateful to all our customers and the community as a whole for its outpouring of support over the past 24 hours, and even more grateful that no one was injured in the fire. As a Colorado family-owned company, Boyer’s Coffee has always been about building. We’ve built community, whether it was over a cup of coffee at our café or one of the local restaurants we partner with – even at Rockies games and in your homes. We’ve built schools – two to-date, with more to come – for our farmer partners in Peru. In this same spirit, we will rebuild the home of all of our Luna Gourmet brands: Boyer’s Coffee, Boca Java, Boulder Organic Coffee and Luna Roasters. While our building burned yesterday, our company did not. Although this was a setback, we’ll continue to provide socially responsible, ethically sourced, Rocky Mountain roasted coffee, and more importantly, community, for years to come.”

Boyer’s became part of the Luna Gourmet coffee family after a 2015 acquisition. From the Denver roastery, Luna Gourmet provides a range of wholesale coffee services, while also maintaining the Boca Java and Boulder Organic brands.

A message on the Luna Gourmet and Boca Java websites reads, “On Tuesday, March 31st our roastery experienced a devastating fire that has left us with nothing but the brick walls of our 1927 Schoolhouse Roastery. There will be an impact on our business with all current orders, and our customer relations team will do their very best to reach out and communicate to the affected individuals as quickly as we can.”

The roastery and Boyer’s Coffee cafe is located at 7295 N. Washington St. in Denver.
