Entry Period Now Open for 2023 Good Food Awards for Coffee

The submission period is now open for the 2023 Good Food Awards, which is heading into its 13th year of celebrating sustainably and locally produced specialty food products in the United States.

Alongside categories such as candy, charcuterie, pickles, cheese and spirits, coffee remains distinct in that its primary ingredient — green coffee — is largely produced overseas. Overseen by co-chairs Sandra Elisa Loofbourow and Tovara Salley, the coffee category in recent years has thus sought to accommodate diversity in coffee production.

Naturally, submissions will also be evaluated through numerous judging rounds on finished quality, including “exemplary flavor — sweet, clean, well developed body, balanced acidity and phenomenal aromatics,” according to the submission guidelines. Loofbourow told DCN that the rules and regulations for the coffee category remain the same as they have been over the past two years, a period in which 29 coffee roasting companies have been able to proudly affix the signature blue GFA label to winning products and marketing materials.

Submissions for all 2023 GFA categories cost $82, plus an optional $15 to receive feedback from judges, with a maximum of three entries per category. Applications are being accepted through June 30.
