Black & White Roasters Brings First CropConex Coffee to US Market

Raleigh, North Carolina-based Black & White Roasters is the first United States roaster to bring a coffee to market through CropConex, a new global coffee trading and inventory management platform. The Raleigh-based roaster worked with United States-based CropConex to bring an anaerobic-natural-process coffee from producer The Dara Brothers in Ethiopia to consumers. CropConex has launched with offerings sourced from Ethiopian producers, while offering related logistics and inventory management services. 

Marcus Young Joins Goodboybob Coffee Roasters

Marcus Young is joining California-based Goodboybob Coffee Roasters as executive vice president of coffee. A Q Grader and authorized SCA trainer who most recently worked at coffee software company Cropster, Young will be in charge of the progressive roasting and retail company‘s coffee buying, retail and distribution initiatives, including growing the company’s delivery and subscription program. 

Victoria Arduino Introduces AI-Based Scale to Eagle One

Italian brand Victoria Arduino is launching exclusive technology to enhance the Eagle One espresso machine. The Virtual Intelligence Scale uses artificial intelligence to digitally estimate the right dose and monitor the flow based on the desired weight in grams, as set by the user.

Mazzer Launches Omega X Fast Grinder 

Italian coffee grinder manufacturer Mazzer has launched a grinder designed particularly for espresso preparation. The new Omega X Fast follows the 2021 launch of the Omega in 2021. It was the company’s first manual grinder. 

Brita Study Shows What Makes the Ideal Cafe

Nearly half of UK coffee drinkers prefer to sip their coffee in a cafe rather than take it to go, according to new research from water filtration company Brita. Seventy-two percent of the 2,000 participants said they prefer natural lighting inside cafes, and 36% enjoy background noise like music, but at a low level. 

$75 Million Equity Investment in Westrock Coffee Company

Arkansas-based Westrock Coffee Company has entered into agreements with HF Capital and the Herbert Hunt family for equity investments of $75 million. The transactions are expected to close next month. Earlier this year, the company signed a real estate deal for a $70 million, 530,000-square-foot distribution center project.

Black Rifle Coffee Company Names New President

Black Rifle Coffee Company‘s Chief Marketing Officer Chris Mondzelewski was named company president. He will assume both roles. Mondzelewski has been with the Salt Lake City-based company since May. Black Rifle was sued earlier this year by an Ohio-based beverage consultancy that accused the company of failing to pay royalties and fees.

ICO Releases June 2023 Global Coffee Market Report

The International Coffee Organization (ICO) has released its latest monthly Coffee Market Report. The ICO Composite Indicator Price lost 2.4% from May, averaging $1.7125 per pound. Global green bean exports in May totaled 9.56 million bags, down 0.6% from 9.61 million bags in the same month last year.

World Coffee Portal Research Shows Strength of European Market

The UK is the top European market based on number of coffee outlets, at 9,885, according to new research from World Coffee Portal. The latest Project Café Europe findings also show that Romania has the highest rate of growth, at 29.2%. Starbucks, Costa Coffee and McDonalds’ McCafé are the top three branded coffee chains in Europe. Branded coffee shops have grown by 3.3% over the past 12 months.

FreshBrew Group Names Peter Doyle VP of National Accounts

Peter Doyle is the new vice president of national accounts for Houston-based wholesale coffee supplier FreshBrew Group. Doyle previously worked for Mother Parkers Tea & Coffee. Last year, FreshBrew Group announced a $10 million investment into its production facilities.

Middleby Acquires Arizona-Based Terry Water Treatment Solutions

Elgin, Illinois-based Middleby Corporation has acquired Chandler, Arizona-based Terry Water Treatment Solutions for an undisclosed sum. Terry offers a proprietary scale removal and prevention solution called Cytrine. In the coffee equipment industry, Middleby is the owner of Marco Beverage Systems and espresso machine maker Synesso.

Community Coffee Planning $4 Million in Investments

Baton Rouge, Louisiana-based coffee roasting company Community Coffee plans to invest $4 million in new technology while adding 15 jobs, according to a notice filed with the Lousiana Economic Development agency last week. The story was first reported by the Greater Baton Rouge Business Report
