Dates and Locations of 2024 US Coffee Championships Preliminaries

USCC Preliminaries

The organizers of the U.S. Coffee Championships (USCC) have unveiled the dates and locations of the 12 preliminary competitions for the 2024 championship season. The championships are sanctioned by the global nonprofit Specialty Coffee Association.

Launched in 2018 to improve local and regional access to barista competitors, the preliminary events result in guaranteed spots for what is typically two USCC qualifier events. Winners of those then compete in the national USCC, which often takes place in conjunction with the Specialty Coffee Association’s Specialty Coffee Expo.

The 2024 SCA Expo is scheduled to take place next April in Chicago.

The first preliminaries run Aug. 25-27, with concurrent events at Talitha Coffee in San Diego and Blendin Coffee Club in Houston. Ten additional dates are scheduled throughout the United States, with the final one coming Oct. 20-22 at a Los Angeles outpost of Counter Culture Coffee.

The Preliminary schedule follows an application and review process led by the U.S. chapter of the SCA and the SCA’s U.S. Competitions Committee.

In terms of geographic representation, the schedule notably lacks venues in the Upper Midwest and Pacific Northwest. The locations of the USCC qualifiers have not yet been announced.

Here is the complete list of preliminary dates and locations, followed by which of the six competition types is being hosted.

  • Aug. 25-27 – Talitha Coffee (San Diego): Barista, Coffee In Good Sprits (CIGS)
